Abstract

This study was carried out to evaluate mycotoxin removal by Streptomyces sporoverrucosus JS383 and Streptomyces lavendulae JS669 isolated from soil. These strains removed aflatoxin B1 from 100 ¥ìg/L to 3.3~6.3 ¥ìg/L during 72 h incubation in nutrient broth (NB), and reduced 100 ¥ìg/L each of ochratoxin A and fumonisin B1 to 1.0~1.2 and 2.1~9.0 ¥ìg/L, respectively during 30 sec in NB. They showed thermostability in mycotoxin removal up to 60¡ÆC. JS383 and JS669 also removed 100 ¥ìg/L each of aflatoxin B2, G1, and G2 over 89.6% during 48 h of incubation in NB. Mass spectrometric analysis after column chromatography of bacterial culture supernatant showed that most of substances present in the culture of JS383 and JS669 related to mycotoxin removal were low molecular weight materials below 600 m/z. Further purification and analysis is necessary for investigation of the substances responsible for mycotoxin removal. Strains JS383 and JS669 can effectively remove several mycotoxins simultaneously and are expected to be used for mycotoxins removal to decrease economic damage in food and feed industry.
